I had heard of Portuguese Water Dogs, but I was stunned to learn this week about Norwegian Forest Cats. I love the idea of animals having a nationality.
And then today, as if on cue, Ted said, "Kitty is Scottish."
If you insist, Ted, on ascribing human characteristics to an animal. A bit childish, don't you think, I asked Kitty.

The Scottish Sofa Cat is much like the Welsh Davenport Tabby. Although some may be confused as to why a Welsh cat would be named after a district of Greater Manchester, we must not forget that the davenport (as a piece of furniture) gets its name from A.H. Davenport Company of Cambridge, Massachussetts. The Davenport Co. originally made its furniture from cat hide, which was chiefly imported into the Unites States from Wales. The color, length and pattern of the pelts varied however and Welsh entrepreurs saw a market for a consistent product, hence the Welsh Davenport Tabby was bred. Go America!
I think I love you.
